Welcome to the homepage of the Wellington City Chorus!

Wellington City Chorus is a diverse group of women singers united in their commitment to performing barbershop harmony at a high standard, with joy and pride in their accomplishments.

What we sing

Barbershop harmony is sung unaccompanied in four parts, with the aim of producing beautiful ringing chords. Our Master Director, David Brooks helps us work towards this. Many years ago barbershop was a purely male dominated craft born in the southern States of USA, but now nearly 27,000 women participate around the world under the guidance of Sweet Adelines International.

Why we sing

We enjoy singing together and performing together and regularly compete in the NZ Regional Contest. (We won this for the first time in 2005, allowing us to compete at the International Contest held in Las Vegas, in 2006 – Click here for pictures!). We also sing at other events and functions and occasionally put on shows and concerts. Our repertoire ranges from old to modern, and from blues to show tunes. We also sing a number of New Zealand songs and numerous Christmas carols! (Click here to contact us to sing at your event!)

Who we are

Wellington City Chorus currently has around 65 members, having grown by leaps and bounds since its inception in 1998. We always welcome new members so come along to a rehearsal to find out if barbershop is for you!

Where we meet

We practice every Monday evening from 7.15 pm to 10.00 pm, at the Wellington Bridge Club, 17 Tinakori Road, Thorndon. (MAP).
